Curly fue un actor estadounidense que se hizo de fama y reconocimiento gracias a su memorable personaje en la serie cómica más grande de todos los tiempos "Three Stooges", grupo del que formaba parte, junto a su hermano Moe y su amigo Larry. Sin dudas era el más querido del famoso trío cómico por parte del público.

Se unió a los chiflados en el año 1932, tomando el lugar que su hermano, Shemp Howard, había dejado en el grupo, el cual todavía estaba a cargo de Ted Healy, y se llamaba "Ted Healy and his four Stooges", con su formación original: Moe y Shemp Howard, Larry Fine y Fred Sandborn.

Una de las condiciones que le impusieron para empezar a formar parte del trío fue era que debía afeitarse su bigote, así como la larga cabellera que tenía al estilo Buffalo Bill, a partir de entonces pasó a ser conocido a nivel mundial como "Curly".
Se hizo entrañable entre la audiencia con sus rasgos cómicos y absurdos, chascarrillos y berrinches como: "¡Niuc! ¡Niuc! ¡Niuc!" y "¡Wuuu! ¡Wuuu! ¡Wuuu!" se recuerdan con una sonrisa alrededor del mundo.

Jerome era una persona muy tranquila e introvertida, y al igual que muchos artistas que saltan a la fama de la noche a al mañana, no soportó tanta presión de la fama. Se inició en la bebida y gastaba el dinero en casas, coches, comidas, perros y mujeres. Se unió en matrimonio en cuatro ocasiones distintas.

A mediados de los cuarenta, su condición física y mental comenzó a deteriorarse. En 1946, luego de un accidente cardiovascular se alejó del trío, y reemplazado por Shemp. Al sufrir otro ataque, es confinado vivir en una silla de ruedas en 1946. Luego de seis años, en 1952 falleció en California.
